HOLY
GROUND
Heb. 11:24 –25 — Exodus 3
Of all the heroes of the Bible none has impacted my life as a believer and particularly as pastor than the man Moses. According to Hebrews 11:24-25, Moses refused everything this world holds dear in order to obey the call of God. His choice showed his low estimate of worldly things and his high estimate of spiritual things. He refused the very things for which men in our culture sell their souls. He sacrificed the things for which men of our day sacrifice themselves.
As a result of Moses' difficult but courageous choice, he was allowed the high privilege to stand on holy ground. (Exodus 3) On that ground Moses heard the voice of God and saw the fire of God. From that moment forward Moses walked by the sound of that voice and the light of that flame.
Do you need a fresh "holy ground" experience in your life and ministry?
I. Holy ground is the PLACE WHERE THE VOICE OF GOD IS HEARD.
When Moses stood before the
burning bush with his attention completely arrested, his curiosity stirred
to its depths and his mentality pitched to its highest frequency, God spoke: "Put
off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy
ground."
(Exodus 3:5)
Do you remember the "holy ground" experiences in your life?
Do you recall those places which in and of themselves were not sacred, but because it was in that special place you heard God's voice and saw God's power and they were considered "holy ground" to you? God challenges all who serve him to daily remove the shoes of worldly living, carnal thinking and a defeated spirit and draw near to Him for a fresh touch of His power.
II. Holy ground is the PLACE WHERE THE VISION OF GOD IS
REVEALED. "Behold, the bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed." (Exodus 3:2b) Perhaps Moses thought, "this bush has a quality I do not possess - it burns intensely, yet the fire does not go out." His mind may have called up the memory of his failed attempt to deliver God's people in his own power. But now God reveals to Moses that self-effort inevitably ends in failure, but God's power is available as an inexhaustible resource for life and ministry.
III. Holy ground is the PLACE WHERE THE VICTORY IS ASSURED. In Exodus 3:20 God assures Moses that the victory has been won 'Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people, the Children of Israel, out of Egypt." When we stand on holy ground we know that through the power of Jesus Christ, made available to every believer through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we will not only make it, but we will be victorious!
WE ARE STANDING ON HOLY GROUND
